Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting incident that erupted late Saturday at Howe Community Park as authorities were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
How It Started
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the park on Howe Avenue at approximately half past six in the evening after getting calls of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, another report was received regarding a Sacramento park shooting 2026 reported physical confrontation occurring near the park.
A sheriff's airship was sent to survey the area but could not confirm any ongoing fight. However, it was evident that several hundred individuals had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.
The Shooting Itself
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling those gathered to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were provided for attendees to disperse.
At the height of the dispersal effort that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Officers at once began searching for victims.
The Shooting Victims

The victims — including a female and three males all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District provided support and helped care for those who had been shot on location.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident seemed to have taken place along the Cottage Way corridor adjacent to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators found additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the Home Depot store. This evidence suggested that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. That Home Depot location was locked down during the incident. Crime scene technicians and detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
